PROfit Sport Drink Packaging: A Fusion of Functionality and Aesthetics

Amcor LATAM & Toni Ecuador's Innovative Approach to Sports Drink Packaging

Amcor LATAM & Toni Ecuador's PROfit Sport Drink Packaging, an award-winning design, combines functionality and aesthetics. Inspired by athletic equipment and designed with unique features, this packaging stands out in the market.

The design of the PROfit Sport Drink Packaging was inspired by athletic equipment. The designers at Amcor LATAM & Toni Ecuador added a texture to the container that mimics sports apparel and footwear. They used hard, reactive shapes with safety pads in mind, aiming for an aggressive and modern look with a new metallic label.

Launched in early 2013, the new packaging for PROfit transitioned the product to a standalone iconic package that is aggressive, sporty, and modern. The packaging features a sport-infused container with a highly reflective and clean label with ghosted attributes. A hexagonal texturing feature ties the two together.

The PROfit Sport Drink Packaging was realized using the Injection Stretch Blow Molding (ISBM) process, with PET Plastic for a Cold Fill Application. The packaging comes in two sizes: 500ml and 350ml, each with its specific dimensions and weight.

The design team, led by Jeff Klok and including Luis Villalobos Jr., Carlos Londono, Juan Milla, and Carlos Pozo, ensured the bottle's functionality. They lowered the location of the labeling panel to make the container more stable in a bicycle water bottle holder. The shape of the container improves gripability with limited sight interaction, and the textured surfaces minimize slipping.

Extensive research was conducted to improve the functionality of the packaging, from ergonomic studies to container use constraints and goals. The design team faced the challenge of coming up with a texture that was both producable and conveyed the correct athleticism that the brand needed. They decided on a Hexagonal patterning.

The PROfit Sport Drink Packaging was awarded the Golden A' Packaging Design Award in 2014. This prestigious award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
